Large scale double hemisphere World map dedicated to the Marquis of Pescara ,Cesare D´Avalos. Fine example of this world map considered nowadays exceedingly rare .Paolo Petrini was a cartographer active at Naples during the late XVII and early XVIII century of whom not much printed work has remained. The hemispheres are set aloft amidst a fine allegorical composition. The source for the Americas is the map by Coronelli published in the Atlante Veneto circa 1690. The Great lakes are well delineated. The Mississippi river has some level of distortion as its mouth is located far southwest of its true location. California is represented as a large island and the Pacific Northwest the coast curves inwards to include the strait of Anian. The South American shows some level of distortion with a widened form. In regard to the rest of the world, the source seems to be the world map by Nicolas de Fer published in 1694. Asia is well charted based on Dutch and Jesuit sources. Australia is said to be discovered in 1644 on the map ( Abel Tasman voyages) and Petrini delineates the coasts of western and southern Australia and part of Tasmania. The east coast of Australia remains uncharted. The allegory sorrounding the map includes images of Saturn,Jupiter,Mars,Venus,Mercury with zodiacal signs and mithological figures.Below are depictions of Trade,Industry,Science and Art. Not much is know of Petrini. He published his rare atlas: "Atlante Partenopeo"(1700-1718) and set of continents and world maps in large size.Few copies are tracked in the market in the last 30 years. Ref: Shirley 625( plate 429) ,Wagner 168Africa wall map

The map shows the african continent and a decorative border with representations of african people from Cabo Verde, Canary islands, Guinea,Benin, Congo, Angola,Ehiopia, Madagascar, Senegal,Nile sources, Nubiani,Morocco, Libya,Egypt with piramids. The source for the map is the large double plate map of Africa by Coronelli included in his Atlante Veneto 1696. the large lakes in Africa are not in their correct position in the same way like the Nile sources. The topographical information is based in Dutch maps like the Visscher and De Wit but basically completed with the Nolin- Coronelli maps. Highly decorative map with distorted profile of western Africa. Very few wall maps by Petrini come up to the map trade as the number of copies originally printed were very few and surviving examples of wall maps like this one are nowadays very rareL´Egeo Redivivo O Sia Chorographia Dell´Arcipelago ,Grecia,Morea O Peloponese,Di Candia ,E Cipri
