65x 53 cms.Fine illustrated plan of Rome in bird´s eye view where all the main buildings,palaces, churches, monasteries,piazzas, gardens are represented.Large cartouche on upper left corner with a figure with papal robes representing St Peter with the keys and allegorical figure of justice. Five columns of text with numbered key of all building represented on the map. Falda (1643-1678) was an italian architect and engraver that worked with Bernini at his studio and later became a draughtsman and engraver. He is famous for his wall map representing Rome in 12 sheets "Nuova Pianta et Alzata della citta di Roma" published in 1676 of which this plan is a reduced version. Falda´s views celebrated the works carried out by Pope Alexander VII that was a complete renovation for Rome in gardens, fountains and architectural elements along the city.
