GEORGE ORWELL First Edition, First Printing A clean crisp book with the original dust jacket in the scarce red variant color. Written while Orwell suffered severely from tuberculosis and published shortly before the disease claimed his life, the novel is a work “of hectic, devilish, claustrophobic intensity. nightmarish in the telling” (Clute & Nicholls, 896). In 2005, the novel was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005. Named as one of Modern Library 100 Best Novels of the twentieth century. “It is quite simply a novel which has changed the world” The book is in near fine condition with light green cloth boards with red titles to the spine. The boards have sharp corners, a tight binding and no edgewear. Hint of slight edge bumping. Mottling and toning to the cloth mostly to the spine tips. The end papers are in clean condition with no owner names, no bookplates and no inscriptions but with some very pale faded foxing spots. Small faded bookseller stamp to the rear end paper. The internal pages are clean, bright and flat with no age toning, no stains, no marks, no writing, no bent pages and no foxing internally but some foxing spots to the outer page block. Please see images. The preferred scarce red variant original dust jacket has benefited from some restoration by an expert paper conservator and as such presents in near fine condition. The restoration is mostly limited to the very outer spine tips/edges and to an intact tear along the rear panel. The Nineteen Eighty-Four jacket is known to be extremely fragile, and usually in pieces or missing altogether. This jacket has strong vibrant colors with the typical fading of the spine to a grey tone. Otherwise the jacket has no chips, no edgewear, no stains, no fading, no rubbing and no foxing. THE WAR OF THE WORLDS

H.G. WELLS st Edition, First Impression, First State An excellent example of this title in the FIRST state with the copyright page date 1898, and without the publishers catalogue. The first state of this title was issued both with a 16 page catalogue AND without the publishers catalogue; and a second state of the first printing was issued with a 32 page catalogue. The book is in excellent condition for this title being firmly bound, having benefited from being rebacked with all the original cloth laid back down. As such the book is tight and sound and quite readable without the usual cracked hinges or broken bindings. The original cloth is in beautiful condition with no rubbing or wear but a spot to the rear board. The book has slightly rounded corners with strong black titles to the front and spine. The original end papers are present, the front end paper has slight offsetting from what was likely a book plate. The book has no owner names, and no inscriptions but a faint pencil mark to the first blank page. The pages are remarkably clean with but a few stray faded handling marks, otherwise no stains, no bent pages and no foxing. Overall even toning to the pages. Please see detailed images. The US edition is the true first printing having been published one month prior to the UK edition. All pages present, and firmly bound. First state with “Bowen/Merrill” at the base of the spine panel. Variant with the moon, author and title all gold stamped to the front, and the title blind stamped to the rear board. The American edition of The First Men in the Moon is the true first edition in book form, preceding the London edition by one month. Wells’s lunar adventure was a genre-defining work, and arguably the first alien dystopia, which inspired many later works. The First State book is in near fine condition with beautiful blue cloth boards with strong unfaded gilt tiles to the front and spine. Variant with both the moon, the author and the tiles all stamped in gold, and stunning gilt designs to the front with gilt titles to the spine, and the title blind stamped to the rear board.
