Sylva Britannica; or, Portraits of Forest Trees, Distinguished for their Antiquity, Magnitude, or Beauty. Drawn from Nature, by Jacob George Strutt, Author of “Deliciae Sylvarum” &c.

Frontispiece and 49 lithographed plates on mounted India paper. 4to. [286 x 194 x 29 mm]. viii, 151 pp. Bound in the original green cloth, the spine lettered in gilt on a black label, yellow endleaves. (Short splits in joints and headcaps a little frayed). A few minor spots but a very good copy. First published by Strutt in 1826 in folio, for the present work the plates were reduced in format and the text was modified to allow for the reordering of the trees into more coherent groups. The Scottish trees appear at the end, with a divisional title "Sylva Scotia". Strutt depicted real trees, which are each described.
