4°, later brown wrappers. Woodcut royal arms of Portugal on title page. Light stain at foot. Overall good condition. 8 pp. *** FIRST and ONLY EDITION. In seventeen stanzas, America, Europe, Asia and Africa praise D. Maria I, with shout-outs to her husband Pedro III, the Prince of Brazil D. José, D. João, and the other Serenissimas infantas (whose names inconveniently don't fit the meter). D. Maria (born 1734) became Portugal's first queen regnant on February 24, 1777, after the death of her father D. José I. She reigned until her death in 1816, although by 1792 she was suffering such severe mental illness that her son, the future D. João VI, ruled in her stead (as regent from 1799).The poem is signed in print at the end by P.F.N.S., whom Innocêncio identifies as P. Francisco do Nascimento Silveira, a native of Lisbon who was probably deceased by 1805. He also published the four-volume Coro das Musas, Lisbon, 1792.*** Innocêncio III, 18. Fonseca, Pseudónimos, p. 361. See also Guerra Andrade p. 212. Porbase locates two copies at the Arquivo Nacional do Torre do Tombo and six at the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal. Not located in Jisc.
