Original vintage advertising poster for the Zoological Garden aquarium and terrarium park of the citadel Barcelona / Jardín Zoológico acuario y terrario parque de la ciudadela Barcelona featuring a colourful illustration of three seahorses on green reeds in front of two fish swimming past against the blue shaded water background, the stylised text in black and coat of arms below. Created in 1877 as the first major park in Barcelona, Catalonia, the Parc de la Ciutadella encompasses 70-acres that includes the City Zoo (opened in 1892), the historic Palau del Parlament de Catalunya (built 1717-1727), a lake, museums and a fountain waterfall designed by the Spanish architect Josep Fontsere (with Antoni Gaudi); the aquarium was reopened in 1909 and the formation of a Zoological Garden was started in 1931.
