No "1943" on the title page; "Copyright, 1942 and 1943" on verso. Publisher's original larger format (about 8-3/8 x 5-6/8 inches) in blue cloth with red lettering and ruling to cover and spine. Original dust jacket with "$2.50" printed price on front flap and "Psychothrillers" on rear flap. Author's bio and War Bonds advert on the back cover. This hard-boiled mystery novel was the basis for Otto Preminger's 1944 film noir classic starring Gene Tierney. The story was initially serialized in Collier's magazine Oct-Nov, 1942. Tom Walsh This is a typed and signed letter by Thomas Walsh corresponding to a fan about his first book Nightmare in Manhattan. The novel was the winner of the Edgar Award for Best First Novel of 1950. A New York City crime novel about the kidnapping of a six-year-old boy and the race to rescue him before it is too late. In the letter, Walsh writes about this novel, "Later on they made it into a movie, but bitched it all up. The local, of course, was Grand Central Station, but they switched that to Union Station out in Chicago, and changed my little boy victim to a blind girl." Walsh also expresses that he has been unwell and has not felt like himself. This letter is a rare look into the mind of an author regarding the film adaptation of his novel and his personal life.
