Royal 8vo volume bound in 1/4 rough grained leather with marbled paper on boards. The spine is recent and has new endpapers. xviii, 284 pp. With 29 sepia aquatint engravings, elaborate frontispiece, plus two full page portraits and a full page map. There are 18 in-text woodcuts. On the preliminary pages there is a mis-pagination with xii being listed twice. This copy has a small discreet news clipping pasted at the foot of page 74 concerning the Boughton family. At the foot of next page is a brief ink notation on the same subject. Other than that the pages are clean, bright and without blemish. Ireland created a number of "Picturesque Views" throughout his career. They proved very successful and the reason is obvious with this volume. The engravings are very detailed and offer a real portal to the past as well as exposing his love for all things Shakespeare. Fine.
