Brown cloth, decorated in gilt and black to the front and spine. Illustrated with 12 full-page color chromolithographs from designs by Hermann Faber. All are present. A slight spine lean. There is some fraying to the spine ends and wear to the lower corners. An early owner inscription to a front blank is dated 1873. Very lovely full maroon morocco by Trautz-Bauzonnet. Spine with five raised bands, gilt lettering in two compartments. Gilt decorated turn-ins. Marbled endpapers. All page edges gilt with marbling visible under the gilt when pages are fanned. Ribbon marker bound-in. Bookplate to the front pastedown. Notes in red ink to the first blank. All pages present but for the end colophon leaf. There is a bit of wear along the spine edges. Some darkening to the spine. All the text is quite clean but for the usual toning. To the "they broke their bread" page there are several small stains to the lower corner margin area. Early former owner inscription to the half-title page. The dust jacket is worn with a long tear along the lower, front flap fold. Chips to the corners and spine ends. There is a 3" tear to the lower spine. Wear along both flap folds.
