Hein, principal of James Monroe High School, has now added PHYSICAL VIOLENCE to a career already known as one of the most reactionary in academic circles - distinguished by persecution of liberal students, setting of police upon the anti-war strikers on April 22, and finally by the withholding of diplomas from two (2) honor students who participated in this strike. And now - When a citizen of this community arose quietly in his seat on Commencement Day to protest against this palpable injustice - four policemen, stationed nearby, immediately seized him, dragged him down a cellar, beat him into insensibility, RIPPING HIS JAW OPEN, and left him lie bleeding for hours, DENYING HIM DOCTORS' AID. xvi, 349p., a handsome copy (with one flaw) of the first American edition. Hardbound 9.5x6.5 inch black cloth boards spine-titled gilt, untrimmed textblock, a nice production that bears an inch-&-a half white stain to upper cover (sort of an abstraction, unaffected by the stain-removal stuff we have at our disposal). Casing and textblock are otherwise quite sound, clean and (with the exception of an inoffensive bookplate and pencilled signature) unmarked. Armando Amaya, artist Unpaginated, fifteen consecutive plates in clear b&w exhibition photography plus editorial material, about twenty pages altogether, nice clean pamphlet in 11x8.5 inch semi-gloss black wraps. Slightest crimping along spinefold, else fully sound, clean and unmarked. Laid in find two stapled standard leaves bearing further descriptions and a chronology, a staffer's calling card stapled with these. Women depicted are mostly peasant or rural types, emphasis on motherhood.- $30
