First edition, signed by Enos Mills on the front endpaper and dated September 6, 1917. Gray cloth boards with white lettering on cover and spine. Imprint of a bighorn sheep in front of a mountain peak on the cover. Illustrated endpapers and top edge is dyed gray. Previous owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. Front board has been burned along the bottom edge, affecting a 1 x ¼ inch section and the bottom corner of one quarter of the text block. Boards have moderate toning along spine, light wear and soiling. Other than the burned corners, the text block is clean. Overall good condition. Naturalist and author Enos Mills (1870-1922) is remembered as the "Father of Rocky Mountain National Park'' for his role in its creation. This book, published four years before Rocky Mountain National Park was established, shares many of the experiences Mills had while exploring the grand landscapes of the Rocky Mountain region. ; B & W Plates; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 356 pp; Signed by Author
