"The cheapest, the best, and the most extensively used spelling book ever published." This was not an exaggeration. Webster's spelling book went through dozens of editions, was produced in millions of copies and was exported to multiple countries. Japanese editions contemporary with this copy existed, but from the ownership marks it looks like in this case a Japanese student got their hands on an American edition.é修政åç “å èé¡åç” æ è / Chongxiu Zhenghe jingshi zhenglei beiyong bencao [= Material medical compiled from historical works]
Facsimile edition, large 8vo, pp. [4], 550, [1], 17 (index); text illustrations throughout; text in Traditional Chinese; full green buckram, gilt title on cover and spine; fine. Tang Shenwei was an 11th century physician and author of the seminal medical text, Zhenglei bencao. The text produced in facsimile here is a later, expanded edition published in 1189 by Zhang Cunhui, which incorporates the Zhanglei bencao with Kou Zhongshi's Bencao yanyi. It covers the properties and usage of over 1,500 different medical components, with illustrations for many of them, and includes plants, animals, minerals, and "human objects" (blood, hair, etc.). The sources for the material come from both personal observations and prior texts, some of which have been lost in the original. The edition duplicated here was used in the imperial encyclopedia Siku quanshu and was an important medical reference for centuries.Rejected addresses, or the new theatrum poetarum with an introduction, notes and a bibliography

[Camden, William] Small 8vo (approx. 6" x 3â "), pp. viii, 194, [2]; title page within an elaborate woodcut border, the final leaf of abbreviations is engraved on both sides; original coarse canvas, covered at an early date with a 'dust jacket' of rough paper, flaps folded over and stitched rather crudely with green thread, the outer surface of the paper now worn, with an inscription on the front panel of "Jehoshaphat Jones's book bought at Mr. North's Brecon, May 4th 1802" (this inscription repeated in various forms on the endpapers. A relatively late edition of this classic Greek school grammar which had been printed for the use of Westminister School since at least 1595. This is an interesting copy, demonstrating not only the often scarce cloth binding typically used on schoolbooks of this sort, but also with a home-made, near-contemporary paper covering evidently applied by a (Welsh?) student to protect his book.- $781
