This poster would have been on display and used as a teaching aid at schools for history lessons. The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps WAAC was set up in 1917 to help with administrative and auxiliary work on a voluntary basis during WWI to free men for the front line and help on the home front; the WAAC continued in France after the war before being disbanded in 1921; many then joined the new Auxiliary Territorial Service ATS (1938-1949) during World War Two.
