Genthe's great compendium documenting life in San Francisco's Chinatown before the catastrophic earthquake and fire. This copy bears a poignant association, with the 1908 signature on the front endpaper of Ina Coolbrith, celebrated poet and librarian at the center of San Francisco's literary scene, author of Song from the Golden Gate, mentor to Jack London, and California's first poet laureate. Spine faded; edges a bit marked; mounted photo on front cover has only some minuscule bits of rubbing to the edges and a small fingernail scratch; a very good copy- $750

Moore, Marianne 8vo, self-wrappers, stapled. The entire issue of this magazine, edited by Donald Windham, is devoted to Pavlova with extensive photographic illustrations. Moore's is the only text, an essay that was subsequently included in the 1947 monogaph Pavlova, edited by Paul Magriel, a founder, along with Lincoln Kirstein and Baird Hastings, of Dance Index.
