Thin 4to. (viii), 108pp. Publisher's red embossed cloth tooled in gilt and blind, Light soiling, gutter dampstain in the bottom margin throughout, small repair to the base of the spine, else a very good copy. A facsimile of the 1723 first edition. Thomas H. McCulloch's copy, with his signature and place (Clarksville, Tennessee) dated 1858 on the front pastedown. There is also a presentation by his widow to S. B Stewart. McCulloch was WM of the Clarksville Lodge (built in 1839) six times between 1846 and 1866, the last time during Reconstruction when the lodge was forbidden to meet. He also served as Grand Master in 1856 and 1857. Samuel Brown Stewart is listed as a clerk on Franklin Street, Clarksville in the 1870's.

Bookcloth, 1823-1980
Tomlinson, William, and Richard Masters 4to. Illustrated, with a color frontispiece and reproductions of early bookcloth sample books. Each copy has 66 original samples of victorian bookcloth tipped-in, 30 of designs and 36 of qualities. The samples are a generous 1-1/2 x 3', though a few of the scarcer types are half size. The edition is bound in deep red T grain Victorian Bookcloth (and is probably the last trade edition to be so bound); protected by a deep red slipcase. Limitation of 1500 copies, owing to the supply of cloth available for samples. Tomlinson's long-awaited work on bookcloth documents the early use & manufacture of bookcloth; Winterbottom's dominance of the trade; production methods and costs; and very importantly, the identification of qualities and designs. There is some glue residue on a few of the samples, else thsi is a fine copy in publisher's slipcase. .- $230

The Poetical Works of Mrs. F. Hemans
(Foredge Painting) Hemans, Mrs. F. Illustrated with full page engravings on steel. Full green morocco. Spine in six compartments, gilt and with red leather lettering labels, gilt. Gilt rules on the board borders, All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers, and with the original decorated cloth cover as the front pastedown. A couple of pages at beginning and end with very light foxing, else this is a fine copy. With a foredge painting of a sailing ship under the gilt. Felicia Dorothea Hemans (1793-1835) was a prolific poet of the Romantic Era. Her most famous poem, Casabianca, about a young boy on a burning ship during battle, in included. Her poetry used vivid imagery as it explored various themes, such as patriotism, domesticity and the emotional lives of women. "The boy stood on the burning deck. Whence all but him had fled; The flame that lit the battle's wreck. Shone round him o'er the dead." .- $863

Six Deposit Slips from Cochise County Bank
(Tombstone, Arizona Territory) Deposit slips printed on one side only, 3½ by 5½ inches. All dated in August, 1886. One is for an exchange of $255.00 in gold, silver, currency and checks. Another is a deposit from the First National Bank of El Paso for $92.75 in gold and silver. The Bank of Tucson deposited $25.00 in silver. And the Tomlinson and Brawley Saloon deposited $100.00 in silver. Each sheet has a spindle hole in it, else these are in fine condition. .- $288

(Charles I, or John Gauden) 112mo. Folding frontispiece. (viii), 269pp. Recent black leather, gilt spine title, and gilt crown and 'C.R.' on the upper board. Textblock generally soiled, and with stains form old tape marks, but still in good condition. The second issue, with the place of publication and publisher removed from the title page, but with the misnumbering on section G uncorrected. The frontispiece in state 'a, ii' with the pattern in the roof above the inscription similar to that in the remaining panels, the right edge of the window cutting the 'c' of 'specto', and with three plants to the left of the palm tree top. This state, according to Maden, appeared within a few days of the King's death. Maden, I, second issue. .- $1,150

The dustwrapper has some repair at the spine tips, noticeable along the top of the spine and affecting the letters of "THE", but still presents a near fine, bright appearance. Drake, Daniel Thin 4to. 180pp. Original brown cloth, nicely rebacked to match. Significant wear and staining to the cloth as well as the textblock, which has foxing and some dampstaining throughout. Early discussion of cholera from a resident of Cincinnati, which suffered a great outbreak of it in the year of publication. .- $1,150

Chart of Ancient Armour from ðe xi to ðe xvii Cent; Description of the Figures in The Chart of Ancient Armour
Hewitt, John Large folding chart approximate 18 by 30 inches printed in red and black and with a fine cloth backing, bound into a portfolio. The portfolio is covered in paper decorated with blue fleurs-de-lis in a repeating red diapeer pettern. Gilt title on the spine, and a bookseller ticket on the front pastedown. The chart was cut into nine sectiins to allow folding into the portfolio. Some wear to the inner spine paper, but a very good exemplar. Accoimpanied by the explanatory booklet, 12mo, stiff wraps, 16pp. and signed I. H. The chart is signed I. Hewitt, the I probably stanind for Ioannes (John). The author is probably John Hewitt the Antiquarian, known for his work at the TOwer of London and his well-regarded guide on the history, armory and antiquities of the Tower. .- $518

A Table d’Hote or French Ordinary in Paris
Rowlandson, Thomas Hand-colored etching approximately 9-5/8 by 13 5/8 inches. Published on May 30, 1810. Framed and glazed in a simple antiqued gold wooden frame with a hunter green mat. Not examined out of frame but appears to be in fine condition. Frame size is 17 by 21 inches. There appears to be a short manuscript inscription along the left edge of the print. Guests at dinner around a long table in an ornate room. Two men and a woman serve wine, one of them men pulling a cork and the other two spilling the wine. Another waiter spills soup on the head of a guest, wile a woman and child play a tambour and triangle as their dog begs for food. Bottles of various kinds of wine are seen on the floor in the lower right. Scarce Rowlandson original caricature. .- $1,150
