Edward Abbey (1927-1989) was an acclaimed writer and cantankerous environmentalist. This is one of his classic books, a collection of meditations on Utah's canyon country drawn from the two seasons that Abbey worked as a park ranger in what was then Arches National Monument. The book blends a profound love for wilderness and a bitter abhorrence for those who would desecrate it.
