A CRITICISM ON THE ELEGY written in a country church-yard. Being a continuation of Dr Johnson’s criticism on the poems of Gray. The second edition.
8vo, pp. [ii], xi, [i], 148; contemporary half calf, spine very defective at head. Second edition: first published in 1783. A few notes have been added to the preface to this edition, but otherwise it is not easy to suggest a reason why it should have been reprinted in Edinburgh 27 years after its original appearance in London. Provenance. This copy belonged to the poet Thomas Campbell (1777-1844), whose signature is at the head of the title page. Northup 1042.
