(AUTOMOBILE TRAVEL - SPAIN) PENFIELD, Frederic Courtland. THE MOTOR THAT WEN TO COURT. New York: Privately Printed, Christmas, 1909. Large 8vo. Red full-morocco binding, top edge gilt. Frontispiece. 92, (1) pages, 25 photographic plates. First edition. "A fact story, with random illustrations." Printed by the DeVinne Press for author, the text covers his auto trip through Spain. A Christmas gift from M and Mrs. Penfield inscribed to Mr. and Mrs. Denby on front blank leaf. Frede Penfield was an American diplomat who previously had been U.S. diplomatic age to Egypt and during World War I U.S. ambassador to Austria-Hungary. Am impressive decorative binding in red morocco with gilt and floral silk lining as endpages. Armorial bookplate of Charles Denby, probably Charles Denby, Jr who served as American diplomat in China and later in Vienna around the time this book was printed. Very good. (40158).
