Octavo. 299(1) pp. This is the story of how two men, both endowed with outstanding stamina and skill, reached the top of Everest, and made it back to rejoin their comrades. Bound in blue cloth, spine lettering gilt, corners lightly rubbed, in clipped pictorial dust jacket depicting Mt. Everest in white and brown over light blue-green background, lettering white spine lettering white, some wear to spine ends with tiny nicks, corners and edges showing light wear with top edge of rear panel having a piece torn away;, a few tape mends to underside of jacket, and a few spots of staining or soiling. A very good copy.

It is often the first place for international diplomats with beautiful color pictures of each item in its huge diverse menus for each of their official eight banquets with Chinese and English subtitles. Jiang Xi, the former Director of the Chinese Culinary Art Association has written an introduction. While various explorers (Lewis and Clark) and fur trappers, James and Granville Stuart began the initial mining industry. By the early 1860's, small towns began to be established. The mining was also accompanied with railroad, telegraph and eventually telephone access. The chapter on Montana State Prison has a section on the Indians in prison and women in prison (often for executing wandering men or perhaps too visible street walkers. Here there is much on all the families in the 20th century with complete lists, newspaper records. Bound in brown leather lettered and stamped in gilt, spine lettering gilt, endpapers are maps, a near fine copy with only slight bumping to corners.- $98

Howard-Bury, Lieut.-Col. C.K.; Brig-Gen C.G. Bruce and Lieut.-Col. E.F. Norton and Others Small Quartos. In three volumes, mixed editions. frontispieces, 356, 339 (1 p. ad) and 372pp. Each volume illustrated with amazing photographic images and maps (some folding). To climb mount Everest, it was imperative to locate many men called Coolies who were accustomed to living in cold climates to help, cooks were needed and translators to translate to the men especially the Tibetan language and more. It took months to prepare. All the men needed specific clothing, sleeping bags and of course, food. When the expedition began its journey, it included nine Europeans including two surveyors. It also included 50 Coolies and 100 mules. A fascinating journey. All volumes bound in cloth, one green cloth and two in blue cloth, all lettered in gilt, all have some foxing to fore-edges, the green volumes has bumped corners, and previous owner's names, each volume displays only ocassional spots of foxing. In gernal, a very nice set.- $876
