150th Anniversary Edition, folio, numerous illustrations (many coloured), original blue decorative cloth, gilt vignette on upper cover. The publishers have pleasure in announcing the reprinting of the ILLUSTRATED ARCTIC NEWS originally published in 1852. It is a faithful facsimile of the original edition with all the illustrations reproduced. This edition is strictly limited to 250 copies. Osborne & McDougal were the editors and the work is a compilation of the activities held on board during the winter period. The format is in the style of the London Illustrated News. There are poems, songs, notes, all written in fine copperplate; and we read accounts of the plays and fancy dress balls they held to keep the morale of the crew at a high level, and drive away the bogey of monotony. The work is similar in content to THE SOUTH POLAR TIMES which was written 50 years later in the Antarctic.
