The novel was the winner of the Edgar Award for Best First Novel of 1950. A New York City crime novel about the kidnapping of a six-year-old boy and the race to rescue him before it is too late. In the letter, Walsh writes about this novel, "Later on they made it into a movie, but bitched it all up. The local, of course, was Grand Central Station, but they switched that to Union Station out in Chicago, and changed my little boy victim to a blind girl." Walsh also expresses that he has been unwell and has not felt like himself.
